1946

  • June 1, 1946: USS Whale (SS-239) was decommissioned at New London.
  • June 1, 1946: USS Roncador (SS-301) was decommissioned and placed in reserve.

1947

  • June 1, 1947: USS Sea Robin (SS-407) completed a simulated war patrol circling South America and became the first U.S. submarine to round Cape Horn.
John Harrington TM2/SS was stationed between the tubes when Sea Robin rounded the Horn on 1 June, 1947. Thus becoming the first US submariner to accomplish this feat.

1951

June 1, 1951: USS Sabalo (SS-302) was recommissioned after nearly five years in reserve. The Balao-class submarine had been deactivated in 1946 and now returned to active service. During her second career Sabalo conducted training and fleet exercises before her final decommissioning in 1971.

1960

  • June 1, 1960: USS Haddock (SS-231) was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register.

1961

  • June 1, 1961: USS Sculpin (SSN-590) – a Skipjack-class nuclear-powered attack submarine – was commissioned at Ingalls Shipbuilding.

1962

  • June 1, 1962: The keel of USS Tecumseh (SSBN-628), a James Madison–class ballistic missile submarine, was laid down.

1964

  • June 1, 1964: USS Sarda (SS-488) was decommissioned and stricken from the naval register.

1971

  • June 1, 1971: The ex-USS Bugara (SS-331) foundered off Cape Flattery while being towed to be used as a target in torpedo tests.
